Trauma Disorders
Balancing the day-to-day stressors of life can be difficult. For many, these stressors are dealt with adaptive coping mechanisms.
Unfortunately, there are times when the stressors become more than what we can handle and our coping mechanisms fail.
At this point, it can result in symptoms such as disturbances in mood (e.g., irritability, sadness, and anxiety), conduct (e.g., aggression), or a combination.
Trauma can also arise from prolonged or sudden exposure to highly distressing situations (e.g., abuse, combat, the death of a loved one, or being involved in an accident).

Symptoms of trauma include hypervigilance, paranoia, being easily startled, nightmares, intrusive flashbacks and thoughts of negative events, mood instability, explosive temperament, and detachment from self and environment.
