Tic Disorders
Tic Disorders are involuntary repetitive and rapid vocal sounds (humming, yelling out a word, or clearing throat) or involuntary motor movements which often involve eye-blinking, nose-twitching, head-jerking, or shoulder-shrugging.
When both motor and vocal tics are present, the condition is called Tourettes.
What kind of treatment options are available for Tic Disorders?
Medications that reduce certain chemicals in the brain such as dopamine are often effective in reducing the frequency or completely getting rid of tics. We also use cognitive behavioral techniques, for instance, a clinician may prescribe an opposing behavior that cannot take place at the same time as the tic.
Utilizing psychoeducation, counseling, and/or medication management our providers will fully optimize your treatment.
